Southfield Festival of Hope
The Southfield Festival of Hope, the one and only in Southfield, Michigan, is sponsored by Hope United Methodist Church on its spacious grounds. Youngsters and their families anxiously awaited the opening after seeing the big Ferris Wheel being assembled from the highway. Over 20,000 people visit the Festival over the four days every year.
On Fridays and Saturdays, families, young people and tots take advantage of the beautiful weather to experience the rides of their choice. There were screams of excitement as the rides reached into the sky turning and swirling; the Carousel going up and down and around, the Sea Dragon that turned upside down or the kids slide. These rides last throughout the day and evening when lights illuminated the area giving a magical tone to the event.
The delicious food aromas fill the air from local restaurants and the delicious ice cream and cakes from a local bakery.
Many vendors showcase their merchandise such as jewelry and clothing along the walkway as people stroll from one part of the festival to another.
People are drawn to the large array of entertainment each afternoon and night. The entertainment is suited for the young and old alike. There are dance school groups, martial arts, and well-known crowd drawing singing groups.
